Our Ethos / Pedagogy / Curriculum

We are a committee charity run pre-school who have been working with parents and nurturing our children in our care in the Village Hall since September 1974. Here at Leverstock Green Playgroup we believe that all children are individuals.  

We will use our children's starting points - what they already know, experiences they have had, where they live and build on these giving them more knowledge and experiences through play. using the key person approach. Focusing on speech and language, emotions and teaching our children in our care the skills they need to start school. These skills are independence, turn taking, being able to sit and listen, fine / gross motor skills needed to strengthen wrists ready to write, reading, movement, yoga, drama, imagination and much more adapting the environment for all children to access our curriculum. This is achieved in a warm, inclusive, loving, caring, friendly safe environment with rich , broad inclusive play based balanced curriculum for all our children. We use a blended approach . In the moment planning, Montessori (opportunities for independence and open ended resources), Reggio Emilia (interactions with staff) and Bruner (scaffolding a child's learning) and John Bowlby (key person approach).

Pedagogy- is about how we educate the children in our care and help their development. It is the techniques and strategies we use as a team to provide the opportunities for development and how we interact and our relationship we have with all our children. We do this by supporting, modelling, scaffolding, demonstrating, and much more. 

We aim to promote their independence by providing lots of choices and allowing them time for exploring, yet being available when needed.

We will always give recognition for their work, by either displaying it, including it in their learning journals or by praise. Praise will always be given to a child for effort made or achieved and to reward good behaviour.

We feel it is important to listen to the children and to spend time talking with them.

We will always try to treat children with respect and honesty and in so doing we hope to raise their 

self-confidence and self-esteem.
